Lunch Break (Short Story)

Credit: Complete the Story by Piccadilly

When I woke up that morning, I could barely get out of bed. By the end of the day, I knew the reason I was put on this Earth. Let me start at the beginning. It all started with a loud beeping from my alarm clock. It was always to early, every morning. I'd get up unhappy about it, as always, drink my coffee, and head to work.

My job was so boring that there were times when I would actually fall asleep at my desk. My boss would bring me coffee and tell me to wake my ass up and go get lunch.

Today, I did just that, but it wasn't the same. I went to my usual place, but I didn't go back to work. I drove around for a little while. I was trying to clear my mind before I went back to that mind-numbing place for the rest of the day.

I saw a group of people standing together and a terrifying, yet exhilarating, thought crossed my mind.I drove away, afraid of my own imagination.

Then, around the corner, there was an entire crowd. There must have been something going on downtown.

My body worked on it's own. I went through the crowd as a knife goes through butter. And that's when I knew. This was my purpose, not the boring desk job of sorting out mail for the neighborhood.
